Inter Terra leads the way: we export persimmons to 70 countries
At Inter Terra, we make purchasing persimmons in Huelva and much of the world easier, since we are Andalusian leader in persimmon exports.Last week, we received the Regional Minister of Economics and Knowledge at our plant in Lepe, to show recognition for our leading position in Andalusian persimmon production. The data are clear: agri-food exports from Huelva have gone up 135% since 2009, i.e. we went from 560 million to 1.315 bn in 2017.
Within these data, there is an important gap in tropical fruit sales to international markets, which have multiplied in this period, managing to exceed €16.5 million in the last financial year.
During his trip to Lepe, the Regional Minister of Economy and Knowledge, Antonio Ramírez de Arellano, visited Inter Terra’s plant, part of the Medina Group, where he championed the importance of the agri-food sector in Andalusia and the province of Huelva.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted that companies like ours have become extremely important in Andalusia thanks to its 60-year tradition of fruit production. At Inter Terra, we export, produce and facilitate the purchase of persimmons in Huelva, Spain and the rest of the world.
Medina Group, leader in persimmon production
Medina Group was one of the first companies to produce strawberries in Huelva. Since we started out, we have been committed to innovation, dedicating a share of our budget to evolving and developing new crop varieties, such as the persimmon. Furthermore, from the outset, we have always championed exportation: at present, 85% of our production is exported.
More specifically, Huelva is the fourth province in Andalusia with regard to agri-food and drink exports, with more than €1.3 bn in sales abroad last year, 20% of Andalusia’s total. Fruit plays an important role, representing 85% of total sales abroad.
We are very grateful for Ramírez de Arellano’s kind words during his visit, who assured that both Inter Terra and Medina Group “possess all the factors that the Andalusian Government deems positive: internationalisation, innovation, which in this case, is in traditional sectors, and the creation of employment with a process that is very closely linked to the area.”
When dreams make history
At Inter Terra, we trade fruit produced by the Medina Group in the province of Huelva. Our company has 18 years of history but, in fact, our group has been working in the sector for more than half a century and is a pioneer in strawberry farming in Huelva.
Thanks to our experience, commitment and making the correct decisions, we have become leaders in persimmon production in Andalusia. Our most emblematic product is the Sharoni persimmon, as we are its largest producer in Europe.
